Electrical Grid Vulnerable

Electrical Grids all over the world (including across the USA) are vulnerable to numerous events which happen relatively often (as in Plano this winter for several days to a significant number of neighborhoods) including: Human Error, Inadequate Maintenance, Atmospheric Weather, Solar Flares, and Deliberate Destruction.


Smart Grid Proposals supposedly overcome these issues; however, this is logically impossible; since severed or downed lines, destroyed transformers, inoperable generators, software bugs, and numerous other failures can interrupt the smartest electrical grid.


The optimal solution is to provide off-grid options (Smart Generation Systems) including single consumer generators using natural gas which is less prone to interruption and natural gas can even be safely stored by each consumption site for added backup.


Additionally, this is a much more economical use of fuel (fuel cells 60% efficient - downhole muffled turbines 30% efficient) versus about 6% efficiency via the grid. Anyone who is concerned about our carbon footprint (not me but there are many who do have that concern) should help me push for Smart Generation Systems. This approach has the potential to reduce our carbon footprint by an order of magnitude (i.e. 10% of present) along with potential cost savings due to economies of scale in manufacturing, reasonable regulations, and as much as 90% less use of fuel without the electric utility mark-up.


Texas should move as soon as possible into Smart Generation Systems (off-grid) since this should be the future. Texas research grants, manufacturer incentives, and regulatory support should be provided to give private enterprise a clear path to develop these technologies. Please let me know your thoughts.
