Marines are a Band of Brothers

Recently, Congressman Jeb Hensarling personally endorsed Van Taylor for Texas House at a reception for some of Van's supporters including me. One of Van's friends from his time in the Marine Corps was also present. He was staying at Van's home for a final visit with Van's family prior to being deployed to Afghanistan.

Toward the end of the reception, this Marine and I were able to visit for a while. He and Van went through Infantry Officer Course, Sniper Officer Course, and Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course before serving in First Marine Regiment as platoon commanders together. He stated that he and Van became close friends even though there are some differences.

Van's friend explained that he is a Mustang (served as enlisted Marine then was commissioned) whereas Van was a college graduate. Also Van's friend is from New York City whereas Van is a lifelong Texan and he is older than Van since he spent time working up to sergeant in addition to getting his college degree whereas Van was graduated from Harvard after only 3 years. Regardless of their differences, Van and the Marine became close friends, and he would like to come to Texas when he retires from the Marine Corps to a great extent because of Van's influence.

While serving together in the Marine Corps, they recognized that they could depend on each other, share a common love for the USA, and care about people. Not surprisingly, those were some of the same attributes that Congressman Jeb Hensarling mentioned in his speech endorsing Van for State Representative. Congressman Hensarling also listed Van’s excellent conservative endorsements: Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, Young Conservatives of Texas, and the Texas Alliance for Life. Van is also A rated with the NRA and Tea Approved by the North Texas Tea Party -- i.e Van is the true conservative in this race.

This Friday (February 26th) is the last day to vote early and next Tuesday March 2, 2010 is primary election day. If you have not voted yet then please accomplish that so your preferences will count. Also, please vote for Van who has waged a positive campaign of explaining his plans for improving Texas, reducing taxes, and looking out for our interests as he has done while serving us in the past.
